Andy Dohmen, AIA, NCARB

Director of Tampa Office

Where were you born?

Smithtown, NY

Where is your favorite travel destination?

Home to my wife, the mountains, or anywhere else with her and our dog in the truck. We love heading to Atlanta to visit my daughter and our grandson.

What’s something you’d still love to learn?

Patience, as I’m always on the go and find it hard to sit still. If I had to choose something else, it would be learning multiple languages to better communicate with our clients and coworkers.

What are some of the projects you’re working on?

I’ve helped build a strong company and family at DSA, and I’m excited to continue that journey with Mancini alongside a fantastic team.

Describe our company culture in one word?

Fun and Collaborative

What kind of projects do you want to work on (or technology you want to use) in the future?

I’m open to all of it. I enjoy learning from others, understanding their challenges and needs, and collaborating with the team to develop design solutions. The entire process is something I truly love.

What do you hope to see in the future in the world of architecture and design?

I look forward to seeing further advancements in AI technology.

When did you know you wanted to be an architect/designer? (Or whatever you are, if you’re not an architect/designer!)

I began working as a mason’s laborer for my dad’s company at 13, during summers and school breaks. By 15, I was reading blueprints, and that’s when I decided I wanted to become an architect. I was fascinated by watching buildings take shape from the ground up and knew I wanted to be a part of that process.

What is something you collect?

I don’t really collect anything.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

I had a client tell me “Meet resistance with no resistance”.  I thought about it for a while and now it’s something I do in everyday life and enjoy each day as I go through life.  I always try and see the positive side of life and issues.

What is your favorite hobby?

I like tinkering and making things here and there around the house.

Who inspires you the most in your field?

I’m inspired by the success of the people we work with and the excitement our clients feel when their projects come to life.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I’m quite handy and can fix or build almost anything. I’m also skilled at handling all the domestic tasks around the house.

Any other interesting fact about you?

I’m constantly thinking and never seem to stop. 😊
