NYU Lipton Dining Hall

New York, NY

New York University (“NYU”) approached our firm to redesign the Lipton Dining Hall, the most popular freshman dormitory on its Washington Square campus.

Originally built in 1955 incorporating parts of a 1920s-era hotel building, Lipton saw minor renovations in the late ‘80s but was otherwise untouched for fifty years. The dining facility, which provides meals primarily to Lipton’s 700 residents—but which is also available to 6,000 students within the NYU network—was in serious need of an update.

Lipton Dining Hall Design

Working with Aramark, our challenge for the renovation was to maintain the sense of history associated with the building, while providing a complete redesign of its 5,500-sf dining hall. We updated all electrical and mechanical services, and provided new floor and wall finishes as well as new lighting and furniture. Sleek new servery millwork houses both new and reused display and cooking equipment. In addition, we brought the facility up to current New York City building code.
