Elmhurst Labor & Delivery Renovation

NYC H+H/Elmhurst is embarking on a one and a half year project to modernize the Labor & Delivery Department on the 5th floor of the Main Building.

The current L&D department consists of an outpatient sonogram suite with six (6) private exam rooms; a triage area with seven (7) holding bays; an ante-partum area with four (4) holding bays; four (4) labor/delivery private rooms with direct access to toilets and three (3) labor/delivery private rooms without direct access to toilets for a total of seven (7) labor/delivery rooms; four (4) C-Section Rooms; and a nine (9) bay patient post C-Section recovery room. The department also has support soil, clean supplies and staff spaces.

The proposed Elmhurst renovations include relocation of the outpatient sonogram suite to allow expansion of the existing L&D inpatient areas. The new 1,400 sf sonogram area will have five (5) private exam rooms.

An additional 14,000 sf of renovations will include a new triage area with two (2) private rooms/five (5) holding bays for a total of seven (7) patients; a new ante-partum area with four (4) private rooms with direct access to toilets; three (3) renovated existing labor/delivery private rooms with direct access to toilets and four (4) new enlarged labor/delivery private rooms also with direct access to toilets for a total of seven (7) labor/delivery rooms; and three (3) C-Section rooms with one (1) of the existing rooms being enlarged with enough space for two infant resuscitation areas; and a new enlarged seven (7) bay patient post C-Section recovery room.

The overall construction will take place in 5 phases utilizing nearby swing space in an adjacent 5th floor wing. This will allow for temporary relocation of services while each phase is completed.
