Counter Service

400 Lafayette Street, NYC

The interior fit-out of the ground-floor space at 400 Lafayette Street in New York City transformed 1,140 sf into the first permanent home for Counter Service, a newly redefined sandwich brand.

The project sought to translate the company’s updated identity into a physical environment that balanced bold branding with operational efficiency and a welcoming customer experience. Mancini collaborated closely with the client through design sessions, site visits to their pop-up location, and immersive spatial testing using AR with Toolbelt, ensuring every decision was informed and responsive to the evolving concept.

Originally developed under the brand Kernel, the project required a complete redesign when the company transitioned to Counter Service, restarting the design process and demanding agility and creativity from the team. As the client refined their ideal equipment layout and operational flow, Mancini adapted the plan through multiple iterations, ensuring new requirements were seamlessly integrated into the design. The final space reflects a streamlined layout, thoughtful materiality, and brand-driven detailing that support the fast-casual dining model while offering a distinct and memorable experience for customers.
