Mancini Duffy Selected as Lead Architect for Hualapai Tribe’s Transformational $500 Million Development Program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Mancini Duffy, a national architecture, interiors, and planning firm celebrating 110 years of innovation and design excellence, is proud to announce its role as the lead architect for a new initiative that will bring over $500 million in infrastructure, cultural, and community development to the Hualapai Tribe. This expansive program, which includes 34 individual projects, aims to strengthen the Tribe’s infrastructure, enrich its cultural legacy, and provide vital public amenities. The effort is being delivered as part of a collaborative team led by Consor, an expert in project delivery methodology.
“We are honored to partner with the Hualapai Tribe to design spaces that respect their rich cultural heritage while helping to build a sustainable future,” says Mancini’s President and Co-owner Christian Giordano. “Our work aims to provide the Tribe with dynamic spaces for community engagement, infrastructure growth, and cultural celebration.”
The Hualapai Tribal Program includes several significant projects, including new public facilities, infrastructure improvements, and community spaces. Notably, the program features the design and construction of a new Tribal Administration Building, a multi-use recreation park, and a Veterans Memorial Park, as well as upgrades to roads, utilities, and water infrastructure.
At the heart of the program, Mancini will design a new 18,000-square-foot Administration Building that will house the Tribe’s leadership and government functions. The design will draw inspiration from the Hualapai Tribe’s cultural heritage and natural surroundings, featuring a series of wedge-shaped modules that resemble a desert village. The building’s form and materials will evoke Hualapai basketry and dwellings, while the use of pinewood textures will pay homage to the Tribe’s connection to the “tall pines” of their name. The facility will include a council chamber, multi-purpose rooms, office spaces, and gathering areas, with outdoor patios and courtyards. Expected completion is in Q3 of 2026.
Spanning more than nine acres, the new Hualapai Recreation Park will provide the Tribe with much-needed sports and community facilities. Mancini is leading the design of this vibrant new park in collaboration with landscape architecture firm, Colwell Shelor. The park will include two baseball fields, basketball and volleyball courts, a skate park, a splash pad, playgrounds, and a horseshoe pit. A central plaza will serve as a gathering space for events and community activities. Construction began swiftly within just two weeks of project initiation, and the park is slated for completion in Q2 of 2025.
In partnership with Colwell Shelor, Mancini will also design a new Veterans Park near the Hualapai Cultural Center. The park will honor the Hualapai Tribe’s military veterans and will include a series of ceremonial gathering spaces for Tribal events, commemorations, and public celebrations. This park will become a central hub for reflecting on the service and sacrifices of Tribal members who have served in the armed forces.
The program will also include several essential infrastructure upgrades to support the Tribe’s growing population and needs. These projects feature the construction of a new railway crossing bridge and water pipeline, as well as several new roads and utility improvements designed to improve connectivity and access within the Tribe’s territory.
At the core of Mancini’s design approach is a commitment to respecting the cultural heritage and environmental context of the Hualapai Tribe.
“The design of the Tribal Administration Building was inspired by the Tribe’s deep connection to the high desert landscape and the symbolism of their name, ‘People of the Tall Pines,’” says Mancini’s Principal and Co-director of the Southwest office, Ben Ayers, AIA, NCARB. “We are blending traditional Hualapai symbolism with modern design to create spaces that are both functional and reflective of their rich history.”
The Hualapai Tribal Program is expected to have a transformative impact on the Tribe and its community. By creating spaces for leadership, recreation, commemoration, and cultural engagement, these projects will not only enhance the Tribe’s infrastructure but will also support the social and cultural fabric of the Hualapai people.
